Overview

FoxyCart possesses the great feature of being able to use a Store Remote Domain for your store, meaning instead of your cart's URL reading “yourstorename.foxycart.com” it will read “subdomain.yourstorename.com”. This feature is not free, as it requires a separate yearly security certificate setup by FoxyCart, but is an excellent feature for any online business that wants to appear “complete”.

The setup of the Store Remote Domain requires a few steps and the ability to edit your domain's DNS information. If you do not have access to it, you may need to contact your system administrator.

By following these steps, setting up your domain should be fairly simple and take only a few days at most.

1. Determine what you would want your secure subdomain to be named, ie. “secure”, “store”, “shop”, etc.
2. Contact FoxyCart and clearly specify that you would like to get a “Store Remote Domain” for your FoxyCart account
3. You will need to supply the following information:

• Website / Server Name (the full name of the intended secure URL, ie. secure.yourdomain.com)
• Company Name
• Address 1
• Address 2
• Address 3
• City / Town
• State / Province / County
• Zip / Postcode
• Country
• Company Number
• DUNS Number
• Admin Name (First and Last)
• Admin Contact email
• Admin Phone

Note: If you are a Canadian website, you will need to provide the following:

• A. Articles of Incorporation (with address)
• B. Government Issued Business License (with address)

If you do not have access to the above documentation, please provide 2 of the following:

• A. Copy of a recent company bank statement (you may blacken out the Account Number)
• B. Copy of a recent company phone bill
• C. Copy of a recent major utility bill of the company (i.e. power bill, water bill, etc.) or current lease agreement for the company

1. Make sure your website's Domain Privacy is turned off, if applicable. This shouldn't matter.
2. Create a CNAME entry for the subdomain you chose.
   1. First figure out what your desired domain is, like secure.example.com
   2. Next add a CNAME record for that subdomain, pointing to…
   3. secure-example-com.dns.foxycart.com or whatever is appropriate. Replace secure-example-com with your actual domain name.
   4. IMPORTANT EXAMPLE: Your domain and the CNAME redirection must match. If your domain is secure.puppydogs.com, then you must redirect to secure-puppydogs-com.dns.foxycart.com

• This can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 24 hours to kick in, so be patient.
• Note: If you're using a DNS service, ie. easyDNS, remember create your CNAME entry there and NOT at your domain host.

The final steps are simply waiting for confirmation from FoxyCart and their SSL provider that your account is setup.

Once you receive confirmation, test your new domain by going to subdomain.yourdomain.com/cart (whatever you set up) and seeing if it displays a “This cart is not setup” message.

• If it doesn't, wait longer. If it doesn't happen for 2 days or more, check all your settings because something is wrong.

If you do receive the message, congratulations!

Simply go into your FoxyCart account, Settings, and check off store remote domain. Fill in your new domain, update the forms or links on your website to reflect your new domain, and you're off to the races. You will probably also need to recache your cart and checkout pages.
